York University - Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) 

The OGS is a merit-based scholarship that was established in 1975 to encourage excellence among masters and doctorate degree students in any academic discipline. 

The scholarship’s funding comes from a partnership between the Province of Ontario and Ontario universities.

The former contributes two-thirds of the funds while the latter provides the remaining one-third.

Several eligibility requirements include:

  • Meant for full-time students of an eligible program. An eligible program is a full-time program in an eligible institution that  comprises of two or three terms and leads  to the award of a graduate degree. The MTCU must approve such eligible programs as eligible for funding.

Minimum Academic Requirements: 

The candidate must meet the following OGS/QEII minimum academic conditions:

  • If, at the time of the application deadline, the student is approaching the first or second year of graduate studies, the student must have not less than an A-minus or equivalent first-class standing in each of his or her previous two completed academic years (full-time equivalent).
  • If the student is approaching the third year of graduate studies at the time of the application deadline, he or she must have an overall average of not less than  A-minus, or the equivalent, on all graduate courses undertaken at university.

Equivalent first-class standing: 

  • Students can still be eligible if their application or admittance to a graduate program is  based on professional acheivements or experience rather than academic pedigree. However, the nominating program must explain the rationale behind the student's nomination without using academic achievements as a yardstick and provide a statement of the grade equivalent with which they assessed the professional achievements of the student.
