A temporary graduate visa (subclass 485) permits you to stay in Australia after finishing your studies to live, study, or work. The temporary visa is divided into three categories: Graduate Work and Post-Study Work and Second Post-Study Work. The length of your stay will be determined by the stream for which you apply.

Graduate Work Stream Visa

This visa is intended for overseas students who have recently graduated and have skills and credentials relevant to particular vocations in Australia. It allows you to temporarily live, study, and work in Australia.

Post Study Work Stream Visa

This visa is intended for overseas students who have just graduated from an Australian institution. It allows you to temporarily live, work, and study in Australia.

Second Post-Study Work Streams Visa

This visa is intended for holders of a first Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study employment stream who have graduated from an Australian institution in a regional area. It allows you to temporarily live, work, and study in Australia.

Temporary graduate subclass 485 visa conditions are:

  1. Be under the age of 50
  2. Have a valid visa
  3. Have had a student visa in the previous six months
  4. Having just completed a CRICOS-registered course
  5. Only nominate one visa stream - it is not allowed to alter visa streams after you have applied.
  6. When you apply, you must include specific proof.

Temporary Graduate Visa Subclass 485 Requirements (Stay, Cost & Others)

1. Graduate Work Stream Visa - Stay

This visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to 18 months. Travel, employment, or study in Australia during your stay has been temporarily extended to 24 months for visas issued after December 1, 2021. If we give you this visa, you must locate your own work. We are not in charge of organizing jobs.

2. Graduate Work Stream Visa - Cost 

The principal visa applicant must pay AUD1,680 for the visa. In addition, there is a fee for each family member who applies for the visa with you. Subsequent applicants must pay the whole visa application fee. You may also be required to pay additional fees for health exams, police certifications, and biometrics. The subsequent temporary application fee is waived for subclass 485 visas.

1. Post Study Work Stream Visa - Stay

Depending on your qualifications, the average time range is between 2 and 4 years. Holders of Hong Kong and British National Overseas Passports may stay for five years.

2. Post Study Work Stream Visa - Cost & Processing time

After finishing your studies, you will be able to live, study, and work in Australia for some time, and you will be able to bring your close family members with you.

1. Second Post-Study Work Streams Visa - Stay

Stay in Australia for one to two years and travel, work, or study there throughout that time. While on this visa, you must locate your own work. We are not in charge of organizing jobs.

This is a short-term visa. The length of your stay in Australia will be determined by where you studied and graduated as a student visa holder and where you live as a Temporary Graduate visa holder in the post-study employment stream.

2. Second Post-Study Work Streams Visa - Cost

The primary applicant must pay AUD660 for the visa. There is also a fee for each family member who applies for a visa with you, and subsequent entrants must pay the entire visa application fee. You may also be required to pay additional fees for health exams, police certifications, and biometrics.
