The full form of CPT is 'Common Proficiency Test.' Administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), CPT is an entry-level examination for admission to the Chartered Accountancy course. Also known as CA-CPT, it is a mandatory exam for becoming a member of the ICAI.

Who Can Enroll for the Common Proficiency Test?

  • Candidates who have passed the 10th standard can enroll in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
  • To appear for the CPT exam, candidates must have completed at least the 12th level or equivalent studies from a recognized university.

When and How Is the CPT Exam Conducted?

  • CPT is typically conducted in June and December.
  • Commerce graduates, as well as other graduates and postgraduates, are exempt from CPT.
  • Successful candidates get direct access to the IPCC, the second level of Chartered Accountancy (CA) Exams.
