Eligibility Criteria For Best Engineering Course
Eligibility Criteria For BE/Btech
- Candidates must have completed Class XII with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their main subjects from a recognised board.
- They must pass the 12th grade with a minimum of 60% aggregate.
- To be eligible for admission to BTech courses in engineering colleges across the country, students must score at least 50% in Class 12. Students from reserved categories, such as SC/ST, receive a 5% reduction in the minimum qualifying marks.
- Students who studied Biology as one of their subjects in Class 12 are also eligible for engineering streams such as Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology.
BE Lateral Entry
- Candidates must have scored at least a minimum of 45 per cent aggregate in a three-year diploma awarded by a state government's Board of Technical Examination.
Admission Process for Engineering Course
With entrance exams continuing until July, the BTech Admission process for 2022-23 has officially begun for a few states or universities. West Bengal and universities such as VIT and SRM have already started the entrance exam process by making application forms available to students. The admissions processes for BTech programmes at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) differ from those at private engineering colleges and across states.

Acceptability of a Score on an Engineering Entrance Exam
For admission to BTech courses, engineering colleges in India do not accept the results of a single entrance exam. Although most colleges and states accept the JEE Main score, some colleges and states have their entrance exam. Aside from JEE Main, students also take state-level engineering entrance exams such as MHT CET, BITSAT, APEAMCET, SRMJEEE, VITEEE, and others. On the other hand, state-level engineering entrance exams are limited to a single state.
Acceptability of Scores on Multiple Engineering Entrance Exams
Some states accept BTech admissions from both national and state-level engineering entrance exams. In Maharashtra, for example, BTech admissions are based on both the JEE Main and the MHT CET. In Himachal Pradesh, students' JEE Main scores account for 15% of BTech seats. The remaining 85% are filled through the state government's state-level engineering entrance exam.
Admission without an entrance exam
Many private engineering colleges use management quotas to admit students without taking an entrance exam. However, the BTech fees charged to such students are higher than those who apply through entrance exams.
Admissions Process that is Centralized and Does not Require an Entrance Exam
BTech admissions in some states are solely based on students' Class 12 grades/percentages. For UG engineering courses, Anna University in Tamil Nadu, for example, uses a centralised admissions process called Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA). To be eligible for a seat under the state or concession quota, all students in the state must participate in TNEA.
