GMAT Exam Syllabus

The GMAT syllabus is a combination of business and finance-related topics to help students prepare for the GMAT exam. These topics are categorised into various formats such as analytical reasoning, integrated reasoning, quantitative reasoning and verbal reasoning. These four sections have different kinds of questions in the form of graphs, tables, pie charts, diagrams, etc. Apart from business and finance-related, the exam has also English language proficiency testing questions like understanding sentences, spotting errors and correcting them.

GMAT Syllabus (Section Wise)


  1. Analytical Writing Assessment

The Analytical Writing Assessment section consists of only one essay question. The question is more of business-related. In this section, students should apprehend the essay and write their understanding of it. More importantly, in this section, students’ ability to express and coordinate their thoughts is judged and also the ability to support their thoughts using the given essay is analysed.

  1. Integrated Reasoning

The second section of the GMAT has four types of question formats. This section largely demands students to interpret information presented in multiple kinds such as graphs, charts, tables and diagrams.

  • Multi-source reasoning
  • Table analysis
  • Graphics interpretation
  • Two-part analysis
  1. Quantitative Reasoning

Quantitative reasoning is understanding students’ mathematical skills in different complex topics. Quantitative reasoning is categorised into two different question formats. One is Problem Solving and the other is Data Sufficiency.

  • Arithmetic
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Word Problems
  1. Verbal Reasoning

The Verbal Reasoning section is included to assess the English language proficiency of the students. Majorly students will be assessed on understanding the sentences, spotting the errors and correcting them, etc. The topics in the Verbal Reasoning section are,

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Critical Reasoning
  • Sentence Correction
