‘Gratifying’: Sharp rise in the number of Indian students in Germany, survey says

Germany is the all-time favorite study destination for Indian students. 2021 is a challenging year for International students with an abrupt decline in the number of summer enrollments with the travel bans imposed on several countries, that includes India - German Govt.
As per the survey of the German Academic Exchange Service, there is a surge in International students numbers in German Universities in the current winter semesters. DAAD in its snapshot surveys shows at least 3,30,000 international students are getting enrolled in the top German universities. Also, the first semester students have increased despite the pandemic which is approximately 72,000. Around 160 German universities participated in this survey.

Based on the findings, the surveyed higher education institutions (HEIs) reported that there is a rise in student enrollment from India and a few other countries including France, Italy, Iran, and France. On contrary, there is a fall in the number of students from China, Syria, and Cameroon. Around 10% increase in the number of fresh students from India in the 2021-22 winter semester.
The main reason for this rise in the number is mainly due to a couple of factors. One is the rapid recovery in the numbers of guests and exchange at most german HEI. Also, Indian students show interest in pursuing courses in Germany.
