USA's new act to encourage STEM doctorates by removing Green card caps

AECC Global India.         Study in USA.        Tuesday, 8 February 2022

The US government's recent amendment eased the Green card opportunities for international STEM doctorates in the US.  The bill “America Competes Act 2022” passed by the US House of Representatives, seeks to enhance Manufacturing and to create firm supply chains for competing with the nearing rival China.  The recent amendment opens up gateways in immigration policies for foreign entrepreneurs and doctorate graduates in the STEM field.

This new policy introduces a classification of ‘W’ non-immigrant visas that enables foreign entrepreneurs, their dependents into this enterprise.  The advantage is that now their family members also can get work permits which leads to one step closer to American Citizenship.

According to the law, the eligibility criteria are that the startups need to be at least registered for five years & active.  The entrepreneur should hold a 10% stake in the organization for a period of 18 months prior to filing the Visa application. Minimum of $ 250,000 in investment from a US citizen or from an US organization, or financial grant of $100,000 from the government body.  One year of holding a ‘W’ visa makes the applicant eligible for adjustments towards a green card according to the America Competes Act.  Entrepreneurship green card eligibility includes conditions related to funding, yearly earning benefits, jobs created, Ownership of startup, and deciding authority in management or operation levels that are mandatory to be met.  These startup founders would qualify to hire immigrant workers on a temporary visa to a certain number.

The new Act increases the green card opportunities for Doctoral graduates in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) from any US institution of higher learning or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution.  Spouse & Children are included in this green card eligibility as dependents.  Also, the Act is removing green card caps for STEM Ph.D. holders & their families.  Currently, the America Act receives more immigration proposals for Hong Kong residents.  STEM careers are one of the fastest-growing sectors in the US economy which is adaptable to any extent and provides solutions for modern problems.  Live your American dream by enrolling in STEM courses offered by top institutions from the United States of America with the help of AECC Global.
