What is the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities?

Published twice a year, the assessment criteria for the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities includes evaluating different metrics that measure the web presence of more than 30,000 universities and research institutions from over 200 countries around the world. This involves the number of web pages, the visibility and impact of research publications, the number of citations, and the activity and popularity of the university’s social media accounts.

Is Webometrics rank reliable?

The primary goal of the Webometrics Rankings is to monitor and enhance the digital or online footprint of academic and research establishments, while also allowing for comparisons between universities' open-access dissemination of scientific findings. These rankings utilise various metrics and align with research availability to provide valuable insights for potential students, employers, and other interested parties.

The Webometrics World University Rankings is considered as the most extensive academic evaluation of higher education institutions. It provides an impartial, factual, and transparent evaluation that is current, comprehensive, and beneficial in terms of assessing the performance of universities worldwide. These rankings are conducted every six months, in January and July.

The most recent (January 2023) methodology used three indicators to evaluate the universities, this is to ensure the Ranking of Universities remains current and updated. These indicators are- visibility, transparency (openness), and excellence (scholar).
