LLB in USA: Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Requirements: any bachelor's degree equivalent to a four-year US degree. Universities will set a minimum GPA requirement, typically greater than 3.0.
  • Entrance Examination: You must pass the LSAT, or Legal School Admission Test, to be admitted to any law programme.
  • English Language Requirements: The Basic Scores are
  1. IELTS score of 7.0 or higher
  2. TOEFL, internet-based – An overall score of 80
  3. Duolingo English Test – A minimum score of 110
  4. PTE Academic – A minimum score of 53
  • Funding: In the USA, there are many opportunities for funding legal study through scholarships, bursaries, and assistantships.

LLB In USA: Admission Process

American law schools have slightly varied entry requirements compared to other degree programmes.

  • You should have finished your higher secondary education, equivalent to a US high school, to apply for a bachelor's degree. Students must be 18 when they start a course at some universities, such as Golden West College.
  • The Credential Assembly Service or CAS applications are recommended for students. The LSAC provides this service to make applying for law courses easier.

LLB in USA: Documents Required

When applying to law school in the USA, an overseas student must provide a few crucial documents. You must possess an F1 or J1 visa to study in the USA.

Institutions typically require the following additional documents:

  • LSAT Score

Cost to Study LLB in USA

Studying at US law schools can cost between $40 and $50,000 per year. In general, public schools are less expensive than private ones. LLM will be less expensive to study for than JD because it is a shorter degree.
Some dual degree programmes have an annual cost of around 14 lakhs. Law BA programmes cost about Rs. 10 lakhs annually. The cost of some interdisciplinary legal studies programmes is from about 22 to 41 lakhs per year. In contrast, the cost of other Bachelor of Science degrees with a Juris Doctor degree ranges from 22 to 41 lakhs.

AABA Foundation Scholarships: In the San Francisco Bay Area, scholarships are available for law students from underrepresented populations interested in pursuing careers in the public interest. International students must reside in the Bay Area to be eligible.

ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund
: The American Bar Association (ABA) offers law school scholarships to first-year students at law schools in the US that the ABA accredits. These scholarships are known as the "ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund." exclusively available to US citizens.
